Today being an official holiday, Amtrak is running on its Saturday schedule. Everyone knows that except the passengers. Nothing on the Amtrak website explains that the Monday schedule has been changed to the Saturday schedule.
So today I waited in Stamford, Conn., in the predawn gloom for the first Acela of the day to take me to Providence (the 6:20 a.m. train from New York). Only today it skipped Stamford. Another woman at the station actually held a ticket she bought online for the train that didn’t stop.
While you’re at it, check out the MLK holiday Amtrak prices. A ticket on the 5:10 Acela from Boston to NYC costs $160!!!!
Over Memorial Day weekend, an Alaska Airlines jet that had already pulled away from the gate returned to eject an out-of-control 3-year-old and the father who couldn’t control him.
Most passengers, I think, would understand the pilot’s decision. The father did not.
Anyone who has been trapped in a crowded metal tube with a screaming child has an opinion on this, as do I.
Why would Florida Gov. Rick Scott reject a $2.4 billion federal grant for the first stretch of a $2.7 billion high-speed rail system that the state desperately needs? Politics.
