Just don’t tell the customers!

January 21st, 2013 by Froma Harrop in Froma Harrop

Today being an official holiday, Amtrak is running on its Saturday schedule.  Everyone knows that except the passengers.  Nothing on the Amtrak website explains that the Monday schedule has been changed to the Saturday schedule.

So today I waited in Stamford, Conn., in the predawn gloom for the first Acela of the day to take me to Providence (the 6:20 a.m. train from New York).   Only today it skipped Stamford.   Another woman at the station actually held a ticket she bought online for the train that didn’t stop.

While you’re at it, check out the MLK holiday Amtrak prices.  A ticket on the 5:10 Acela from Boston to NYC costs $160!!!!

Anyone who has been trapped in a crowded metal tube with a screaming child has an opinion on this, as do I.
