Been getting mixed mail on my defense of the VA hospital system. I’ve got to admit that the inspector general’s early findings of mismanagement and likely malfeasance took me by surprise.
I never thought things that were that bad though it needs repeating that the most explosive allegation, that veterans died waiting for care, remains unsubstantiated.
My basic thesis was right. The VA system is beloved by most the veterans. . . once the wait is over. I’ve heard from several of them.
The BBC’s Anthony Zurcher mentions my column in his media blog.
Another piece — on why it’s totally off base to portray troubles at the VA hospitals as a foretaste of Obamacare — will be released tomorrow.
